CaneSport Message Board Mania: Miami Fans Overwhelmingly Pick Canes Over Florida

This is probably going to be a shock to the system of most Miami Hurricanes fans out there, but a CaneSport Message Board thread with UM vs. Florida game predictions saw everyone picking the Gators to win Saturday night’s game. No, we’re joking of course. Only message board poster NapierIsGreat42015 predicted that, and we actually just made that up. Yes, every Miami fan predicted a win in the thread, and with good reason. After all, none of them want to destroy their TV or be miserable around their family all weekend.
My own preseason prediction had this one as a 52 percent chance for a Florida win, since I was forced to back up my 10-2 prediction with the losses (my other preseason loss pick was Louisville). But now I’m changing my tune after watching how flat-out bad Florida’s offense is. I think the only teams Miami can stumble against are those that have the potential to put up 30 points vs. UM, and there aren’t many of those. Maybe FSU? Maybe SMU? But Miami’s very much in the driver’s seat now for an 11-1 season or so just looking at likely probabilities of a couple of games that could go either way.
Florida should NOT be one of those, by the way.
I have Miami winning this one 24-17 after watching UF implode with DJ Lagway’s struggles, although I could see it as a battle into the fourth quarter. Florida’s defense is good enough that if Lagway avoids turnovers and UF plays more patiently on offense it could be a close game.
But Miami out-talents the Gators and has out-efforted them from what we’ve seen this year. So yeah, things are looking up for Miami. And my optimism is shared by CaneSport message board posters. Perhaps even with too much optimism?
You be the judge:
Original thread writer Hooracane starts it off with “27-13 Miami. Florida’s defense is decent and they will keep it close for a while. Lagway will throw 2 picks.”

This I can get on board with, although I envision a win by UM of less than a TD if Lagway doesn’t put the ball in harm’s way a lot.
And then there are those true Miami fans.
You know the type. The ones who predict an undefeated season every year and dress up as Miami Hurricanes football players for Halloween even as adults.
Which brings us to jbkriss.
“Half that gator team has checked out,” says Mr. Kriss, who reportedly has told friends he is considering ditching his UM Halloween uniform for an Ibis costume Oct. 31. “Almost all skipped the alma mater after the LSU game. The impact players’ agents have already been reaching out to other programs to find a good landing spot and $ for next year before the slots fill up. I’m not saying take them lightly because I would like to win by the widest margin possible. But I don’t think it’ll be as close as some people think. Miami wins 42-17.”
eplanas is on board with that: “34-13,” he/she/it writes.
Mr. Kriss and Mr. Planas may take issue with Cane919.
“I think there’s a real chance we get caught overlooking these guys,” 918+1 writes. “I’m going to predict a very close game with the Canes winning 21-20.”
The other posters all were around a 5-14 point margin of win for the good guys.
That seems reasonable.
And should save a lot of broken hearts and TVs.
