WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

With spring practice in the rearview mirror and the page turned to the 2025 season, it’s time to dig into Pro Football Focus metrics to assess the Miami Hurricanes’ roster — the plusses and the minuses. Yesterday, we broke down the offense. Today, we take a closer look at the defensive side of the ball.

The Jai Lucas era in Miami has officially begun, and the Hurricanes’ new-look roster is starting to take shape. We examine the first signees Lucas has brought in and take our best guess at the Canes’ 2025 starting lineup.

In recruiting news, The Hurricanes hosted a trio of transfer portal targets, and we have updates on CharMar Brown, Braxton Fely, and Noah King following their visits to Coral Gables.

Today, Miami is set to host New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr four-star linebacker commit JaMichael Garrett. Despite his longtime pledge to Auburn, the Hurricanes are still in the mix — and this week’s visit will be crucial.

We also have updates on Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 2027 four-star cornerback Jaden Carey, who talks about his growing relationship with the Hurricanes. In the 2026 class, catch up with Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star running back Derrek Cooper — one of the top prospects on the Canes’ recruiting board.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

4th and 1… by  Central17

Playoff teams are gonna win these. This situation has been shockingly difficult to date of the Mario Era. What do you want to see in 2025.
1) Traditional big back Fletcher off tackle behind Mauigoa, Cooper and Nickel, with Lofton as the lead FB?
2) An Eagles style toosh push?
3) The RIP Mike Leach rumored dream?

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“It has a big impact,” Garrett said. “Seeing a school like that recruit you and believe in you makes you think, why not give them a shot? Because they gave me a shot and offered me.”
