WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

We of course had all your coverage from the practice on Friday to check out, and the team’s returning to Greentree this morning so stay tuned for all of that. There were … and today will be … practice field videos, photo galleries, team interviews and more.

We also have a new message board mania feature to check out with fans discussing the defense … which needs to be a heck of a lot better than a year ago.

In recruiting?

Miami is making an aggressive push for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star Georgia cornerback commit Justice Fitzpatrick, the 6-foot-0.5, 195-pound cornerback told CaneSport in an exclusive interview. Read all about that.

Detroit (Mi.) Detroit County Day four-star 2027 tight end Anthony Cartwright liked what he saw when he visited Miami’s campus in June, so he will come back to attend the Hurricanes’ season opener against Notre Dame Aug. 31. Get his thoughts.

Plus IMG Academy three-star 2026 prospect Lekhy Thompkins may be committed to Louisville as a running back, but Miami recently offered the 6-foot-2, 225-pound recruit as a defensive athlete. Where do things stand there?

We also look at three commits we thinks are underrated and point out why.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

Shannon Dawson

“We’re always going to stress the physical part of football first, and running the ball is something that we’re always going to do efficiently. Because I do believe you have to make a defense play honest and if you’re too one-dimensional then defenses don’t have to play honest football. And so the way our offense works with the run game, play action and pass, the play action isn’t going to be nearly as good if you don’t run the ball effectively. There’s a lot of things that happened last year that were a direct result of us running the ball very efficiently where they had to put people in the box which opens up the pass game and so it’s the first thing we preach. It’s the first thing we do. And we’re going to keep emphasizing that.”
