WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Miss The Lamar Thomas Show last night? Well, it’s not too late to tune in.

We also have an interesting analysis you won’t want to miss this morning looking at the overall Miami defense, using Pro Football Focus and statistics data points. So be sure to check that out.

In recruiting?

Don’t miss our update on former Georgia commit Ny Carr, who is visiting for the Georgia Tech-Miami game and flat out tells us the Canes are the team to beat.

After years with Miami four-star safety commit Zaquan Patterson, there’s little the No. 68 prospect can do to blow away Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna head coach Dameon Jones. Jones shares his thoughts on the standout recruit.

We also have a coach’s take on another commit, Cincinnati (Ohio) Taft EDGE Elias Rudolph, who is dialing with an injury right now.

Miami also has picked up contact with Miami (Fla.) Norland four-star 2024 cornerback Jamari Howard, the No. 124 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking, as the fall season has begun. The blue-chip defensive back is showing mutual interest in the Hurricanes.

Plus we catch up with Leo (Ind.) Junior/Senior high school four-star tight end Brock Schott. He’s visited previously, and Mario Cristobal and tight ends coach Cody Woodiel have made sure the Hurricanes stay on his radar. So don’t miss what he’s saying.

There’s also your weekly Tracking the Commits item with stats and highlights from the weekend’s high school games.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Trying Not To Get Ahead of Ourselves….. Posted by dcc21

2009. 2013. 2017. Great starts to the season. Exciting moments. But all just a flash in the pan. Fool’s gold, really.

Yet, this start does “feel” different.

We can point to a hundred reasons why this season is different from the other pretender seasons, but truth be told, we still don’t know for sure just what we have. I don’t think the stats are all that helpful in either direction — great offensive output can be explained by 3 below average opponents, and bad passing defense can be explained by having opponents in vulnerable passing situations most of the game because we were blowing them out. Not enough sample to really REALLY feel confident.

But this does feel different. Depth is better, still not great. Physicality seems to be more of a defining characteristic. Tackling is better. Team feels…tougher.

Last thing I want to see though is arrogance or cockiness getting in the air. Can’t inflate these guys too much. Think and hope that Mario and coaches are keeping them humble, hungry and grounded. I’m glad we have some challenges on our schedule. We’ll find out soon enough what kind of team we’ve got this season. I’m just thankful to be heading into October with some nervous energy and excitement for this team. First time in 6 years.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“He was lights out last year, and he’s lights out now. So how much has he improved? I think he’s better formation recognition and stuff like that, he’s been good. … I don’t know what else he can improve on.”
