5 Key Hurricanes Who Could Decide the Playoff Clash

Miami faces a massive challenge at Texas A&M in the playoffs, and we break down 5 Canes that hold the key to a win.

Live from The Crib

In arguably the biggest upset of the 2025 South Florida football season, Cardinal Newman (Fla.) won its first-ever state title on Thursday afternoon, defeating heavily favored Chaminade-Madonna (Fla.), 17-14. CaneSport was on hand.

Plus we were there for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas’ title win over Lakeland. We had eyes on elite 2027 quartet of offensive tackle and No. 2 overall prospect Mark Matthews, wide receiver and No. 69 overall prospect Jaden Carey, safety and No. 207 overall prospect Zayden Gamble and cornerback and No. 256 overall prospect Jaden Carey. They all shined.

State title stage awaits for Miami targets and signee Dereon Coleman

Two of Miami (Fla.) Northwestern’s most promising up-and-coming stars — and two of the Hurricanes’ biggest recruiting targets the next two cycles — will be back in the spotlight tonight at 7:30 when the Bulls take on Jacksonville Raines in the FHSAA state championship game.

Another update: Miami Hurricanes quarterback signee Dereon Coleman has the chance to make history Saturday as he leads Jones (Fla.) in a rematch of last year’s 4A state championship game against American Heritage-Plantation (Fla.). With a win, Jones would capture its first-ever state title. We have Coleman’s take heading into it.
