Miami has been no stranger to recruiting Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin elite prospects under head coach Mario Cristobal. Wednesday, Miami continued its recruiting success at Mandarin when it signed top-150 cornerback Brody Jennings.

The No. 136 overall prospect and No. 21 cornerback in the Rivals300 signed with the Hurricanes as one of four cornerbacks in Miami’s 2026 class, but he’s also the third Mandarin product to either be committed to or sign with the Canes in the last three classes (Miami signed Mandarin offensive lineman Deryc Plazz in 2024 and had safety Hylton Stubbs committed for several months before he eventually signed with Florida in 2025). Jennings spent several months committed to Michigan but received an aggressive push from Miami this spring and summer.

He remained totally solid with the Hurricanes after flipping to Miami from Michigan July 5. He is the son of former Florida State standout Bradley Jennings, who passed away in June.

“Definitely while choosing a school you want to see the defense you’re playing in and how you can make plays, and Miami, I fit in the defense, but you also want to fit into the environment,” Jennings told CaneSport Nov. 25. “That’s one thing, I fit in the environment. Michigan, they had a good defense but the environment — you’ve got to fit into the environment and the defense. And just as a person where you’re most comfortable at. I was most comfortable with the University of Miami.”

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, secondary coach Will Harris, defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge, defensive analyst and nickels coach Terry Jefferson and countless off-field staff members like executive director of football recruiting Stephen Field were all involved in the effort to land Jennings and keep him committed the last five months.

Mandarin head coach Toby Bullock feels Miami’s staff just needs to be themselves in order to get the most out of the 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect and thinks Coral Gables will be a good fit for Jennings. He’s spent most of his high school career going toe-to-toe with opposing No. 1 receivers and covering wideouts vertically, but he also has the intangibles to take the next step.

“He’s a naturally-motivated kid,” Bullock said Oct. 14. “He has incredible discipline that’s built from his mother and father. And I think when you incorporate that with him having a welcoming and just an environment that he feels comfortable in, you’re going to get the best version of Brody you can get.”

CaneSport’s Take

It always felt like a given Jennings would end up somewhere in the state of Florida, but it was still an impressive job done by Miami’s staff to ward off Florida and Florida State, the latter of whom made a run at Jennings this fall but failed. But Miami’s staff kept him locked in and never offered reason to doubt he would sign with the Canes.
