The summer heat in Miami is no joke. But it doesn’t hold a candle to the streak of commitments that Mario Cristobal and Co. are on right now in Coral Gables.

On Wednesday, Miami landed yet another elite prospect, beating out Florida, Maryland, Alabama and more for Orlando (Fla.) Jones linebacker Malik Bryant.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder is a top-60 prospect in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

His pledge marks the ninth for the Hurricanes from a player ranked inside the top-200 nationally, and it pushes Miami to No. 5 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. The Hurricanes also have the No. 1 class in the ACC, jumping ahead of rival Clemson for the top spot.

How Miami has built one of 2023’s top recruiting classes

The Hurricanes’ surge on the recruiting trail began in late June when they received commitments from Pittsburg (Calif.) four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada, Miami Edison four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph and Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star cornerback Robert Stafford over a four-day period.

Portland (Ore.) four-star tight end Riley Williams, who attends IMG Academy, then committed to Miami on July 1.

“I believe in (Cristobal) because he has been there and done that,” Williams told On3’s Chad Simmons. “He played there, he won there, and he knows what it takes for Miami to be great. He has competed with greats there, he knows what it takes to put Miami on top, and I know he will get Miami back to the top. He will get his guys and win at Miami.”

Three days later, the Hurricanes notched another massive win when they landed Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. He marked Miami’s sixth in-state commitment of the recruiting cycle.

Miami’s momentum then shifted to the defensive side of the ball as they landed pledges from four-star linebacker Raul Aguirre and Tacoma (Wash.) IMG Academy four-star EDGE Jayden Wayne within three days of one another.

Things cooled down for a few weeks after that, but Cristobal has things rolling again. And the Hurricanes look to be far from done in this cycle. Among the biggest remaining targets on the board is five-star Brockton (Mass.) Thayer Academy offensive tackle Samson Okunlola, who is considered a heavy Miami lean by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
