Miami Hurricanes sign high-ceiling 3-star WR Tyran Evans

As Hough (N.C.) makes a state championship run, Miami fans will be keeping a close eye on three-star wide receiver Tyran Evans, who’s back from injury and signed with the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

The undefeated Huskies have emerged as one of the top teams in North Carolina this season. Evans’ numbers are down in his six games played, but he’s still taken leaps in his development. His run-blocking, for example, has improved. CaneSport learned more about Evans’ growth in our conversation with Hough head coach DeShawn Baker in October.

“For us this year, he’s been really great in other areas than he was last year, just from his presence,” Baker said. “His blocking, coaching up the younger kids, guys who are behind him … taking two or three defenders on defense and getting the other guys open. He’s learned to accept that role sometimes that it’s gonna be because of who he is.”

In his junior season, Evans got to show off more of his receiving prowess, catching 36 passes for 980 yards (27.2 avg.) and 14 touchdowns.

Evans’ film shows that he has some of the tools of an intriguing downfield threat at the next level. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound wideout has solid ball skills and knows how to high-point passes. He also moves well at his size and picks up yards after the catch, as there were several plays on his tape that he turned a minimal gain into a chunk play.

As for his commitment, Evans was initially pledged to Tennessee but flipped to the Hurricanes in June after taking his official visit to Miami. He didn’t seriously entertain other schools in the months that followed, as he only visited Miami during the fall. Wide receivers coach Kevin Beard and UM’s staff was never in danger of losing Evans from their 2026 class.

Evans’ attention is zoned in on helping Hough win a state title before he early enrolls at Miami in January.

CaneSport’s Take

Since his flip from Tennessee to Miami, Evans hasn’t wavered in his commitment to the Hurricanes. Evans needs to add mass to his frame, but he has a good foundation of tools to build from.
