Pickett legacy continues: Canon Pickett becomes third family member to sign with Miami Hurricanes
The Pickett last name is becoming synonymous with Miami.
Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech three-star 2026 interior offensive lineman Canon Pickett, the son of former Hurricane Booker Pickett Sr. and younger brother of redshirt freshman Miami EDGE Booker Pickett Jr., became the third member of his immediate family to sign with the Canes when he put pen to paper Wednesday. His commitment formally ended a years-long recruiting effort that began his freshman year not long after head coach Mario Cristobal arrived at Miami, although the Hurricanes were always viewed as the favorite.
The 6-foot-4, 325-pound prospect committed to the Hurricanes over schools including Clemson and Florida in June shortly after his official visit to Coral Gables and remained solid with Miami.
“I’m very excited,” Canon told CaneSport after attending Miami’s final home game against NC State Nov. 15. “I’m really just excited to get here. I’ve been dreaming of this my whole life. It’s like a dream to reality. I’m excited to go through it with all of my new brothers, my new teammates and my actual brother (Booker). I’m just excited to play with him again on top of everything else. I love it.”
The No. 817 overall prospect and No. 77 interior lineman tore his ACL, MCL and PCL four weeks into his senior season but was encouraged by the continued support he received from Miami’s staff. The Canes’ offensive line staff continued to build on their relationship with Canon, although senior director of recruiting administration Mackenzie Rizzi and senior director of recruiting operations Tia Joseph played a major role behind the scenes keeping his spirits high through his recovery.
Canon hasn’t offered a set timeline for when he could return from his injury but has been optimistic it “shouldn’t be too long” and said he’s ready to play. He had surgery on his knee earlier this fall.

Tampa Bay Tech head coach Jayson Roberts said in October Canon remained heavily involved and engaged with the team after his injury and did his best to continue leading off the field.
Canon has played offensive tackle through his high school career but was recruited to play guard at the next level. His strength, footwork and impressive mobility for his overwhelmingly large frame should offer him a great opportunity to be a high-impact player once he recovers from his injury.
CaneSport’s Take
Forget a Tampa-to-Miami pipeline; the Hurricanes have built a Pickett-to-Miami pipeline. Canon has now formally become the third member of his immediate family to sign with the Canes, and there’s absolutely a chance we could see Booker and Canon on the field together at some point down the line.
