Former Miami Hurricanes safety great and NFL legend Ed Reed is set to be the next former Cane to become a head coach.

Another on that list of former Miami players that became a head coach?

Well, current Canes coach Mario Cristobal, of course.

It was reported on Tuesday that Reed will be next head coach at Bethune-Cookman. That’s according to Brett McMurphy of The Action Network.

While Cristobal cleaned house with his assistant coaches when he took over at Miami last December, keeping only TE coach Stephen Field as an on-field coach, he did retain Reed in his role as “Chief of Staff.” Reed originally was hired to that job in 2020 by Manny Diaz, and at that time Diaz was under pressure to bring on someone to help oversee personnel … with some pushing for Alonzo Highsmith to be brought on at that time.

Cristobal did hire Highsmith to help oversee personnel decisions in May, as well.

And now Reed is moving on to his first head coaching role. Reed has NFL assistant coaching experience, spending a number of seasons coaching defensive backs for the Buffalo Bills until he was not retained when Sean McDermott was hired as head coach.

Reed will take over for Terry Sims, who was 38-39 overall in his time at Bethune-Cookman.
