Miami basketball is welcoming 2027 four-star Friendswood (Texas) point guard Chase Richardson on an unofficial visit on Oct. 18, he told CaneSport.

This visit will give Richardson a chance to meet Miami’s entire coaching staff and watch the Hurricanes practice.

“Hopefully, I can just meet all the coaches, that’ll be great, see a practice, go see a football game,” Richardson said about his upcoming visit to Miami.

Hurricanes assistant coach Russell Springmann has led the recruiting charge for Richardson. The two communicate weekly and have built a strong relationship.

“Coach Springmann’s been on me for a while,” Richardson said. “I’ve been growing a relationship. He’s been really good recruiting me, staying in contact [and] getting to know me.”

Springmann, who has ties to the Lone Star State from his 14 seasons as an assistant coach at Texas, recently attended Richardson’s high school practice on Sept. 30, which meant a lot to the point guard.

“He can go anywhere, and he chose to go to our practice,” Richardson said. “So I think that shows that they really care about me and really want to get me up there and that they are really serious about me.”

Richardson took unofficial visits to Nebraska in August and to Ole Miss in September. He also took an official visit to Notre Dame in September.

“It was great. I always wanted to get up there,” Richardson said about his official visit to Notre Dame. “I grew up kind of a Notre Dame fan, so I always looking to see it, so it was great to see everything and meet the coaches and everything; it was great.”

Looking ahead, he also has unofficial visits planned to Minnesota and Iowa. Purdue and SMU are also involved in Richardson’s recruitment.

The main factors in Richardson’s recruitment?

“Just a great athletic program and a great academic program too,” he said. “Just somewhere that can help me become a better person and a basketball player, where I can develop with coaches that believe in me, coaches that have confidence in me.”

CaneSport’s Take

Miami is still in the evaluation process of the 2027 recruiting cycle, but Richardson’s early visit with the Hurricanes suggests that he could be a top target on their point guard board.
