Michigan State has received the letter of intent from three-star Texas wide receiver Jaylan Brown, of Nacogdoches (TX) High School. The Spartans received a commitment from Brown, of on Jan. 28 after a weekend official visit in East Lansing.

Brown tells SpartanMag.com he first began hearing from the Spartans back on Jan. 12, as general manager Cole Moore initiated the contact. Spartan wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins extended an offer to Brown on Jan. 17, as Hawkins and Michigan State running backs coach Keith Bhonapha stopped at his high school. The Spartans were able to quickly get the Texas four-star on campus and seal the deal.

“I knew I would commit after seeing how the players and coaches are about family,” Brown told SpartanMag.com. “It feels great. I told Coach Smith and Coach Hawk and there were really fired up and said ‘lets do it’.”

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound receiver is ranked a three-star, the No. 809 overall recruit in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. Brown is also ranked the No. 125 wide receiver, and the No. 121 recruit in Texas. He holds two other offers from Washington State and North Texas. During his senior season on the football field, Brown nabbed 55 receptions for 910 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Brown is a long, athletic receiver with good hands and the ability to high point the football at a high level. The three-star receiver is an impressive late find by the new Spartan staff.

Michigan State signed four-star wide receiver Nick Marsh of Detroit (MI) River Rouge High School during the early signing period, the highest ranked commitment in the Spartan 2024 class. Hawkins and the new Spartan staff also made a quick evaluation landing and signing speedy receiver Austin Clay, of Berea (OH) Midpark High School. Brown is now the third receiver to sign with the Spartans in the 2024 class.

The Spartans are also expected to sign 2024 defensive tackle Mikeshun Beeler, of Chicago (Ill.) Simeon Academy on Feb. 7. Brown and Beeler are the lone signees expected today.
