Michigan State adds commitment from 2026 three-star Georgia CB TJ Umenyiora

Michigan State stayed hot on the recruiting trail when it landed three-star cornerback TJ Umenyiora, of Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity High School, on Saturday. He announced his commitment via social media following a mid-week visit to Auburn.
Umenyiora spent the weekend of June 6 in East Lansing. He also visited Mississippi State (May 30) and Northwestern (May 9). He held additional offers from Georgia Tech, Duke, Kentucky and West Virginia, among others.
Umenyiora is the No. 1,038 recruit, No. 93 cornerback and No. 109 player from Georgia in the 2026 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings.
Umenyiora’s June 6 official visit marked his second time at Michigan State. He previously visited East Lansing for a spring practice in April.
Umenyiora is the son of former NFL defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora. Osi played college football at Troy before the New York Giants selected him in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. The 12-year NFL veteran was a two-time Pro Bowl honoree and two-time Super Bowl champion.
“My dad is very high on Michigan State, and he has a strong influence on my college decision,” Umenyiora previously told SpartanMag. “He was teammates with Plaxico Burress, and he talks very highly of Michigan State. My dad is in favor of it based on that, and this visit kind of solidified that when he got to meet the entire coaching staff.”
Michigan State views Umenyiora as a prototypical outside cornerback. Umenyiora was high on Spartan cornerbacks coach Blue Adams’ board.

“(Blue Adams) said he’s looking for long corners,” Umenyiora said. “At my size, he sees me being able to play very well in the Big Ten, really getting into the run fit and also being able to be a great lockdown defender. He kind of sees me playing strictly corner, and being that big, physical corner.”
Umenyiora becomes Michigan State’s fourth defensive back commitment in its 2026 class, and its 13th overall. He joins Fayetteville (Ga.) Whitewater cornerback Kelsey Deriso, Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edwards safety Brayden Thomas and Jacksonville (Fla.) Impact Christian safety Eliyjah Caldwell-Hardy in the Spartans’ defensive back class.
Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek linebacker Braylon Hodge, Frisco (Texas) Lone Star defensive tackle Christopher Knauls and Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven rush end Cory House round out Michigan State’s defensive commits.
The Spartans also hold commitments from East Kentwood (Mich.) quarterback Kayd Coffman, Sioux Falls (S.D.) Jefferson tight end Eddie Whiting, Mansfield (Ohio) Lexington tight end Joey Caudill, Bakersfield (Calif.) offensive lineman Quinn Buckey, Gilbert (Ariz.) Williams Field offensive lineman Collin Campbell and North Branch (Mich.) offensive lineman Eli Bickel on the offensive side of the ball.
