Four-Star Florida LB Jayvant Brown de-commits from Michigan State
Four-star linebacker Jayvant Brown de-committed from Michigan State on Sunday afternoon, delivering the news via social media. Brown, of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas, is the No. 381 player in the country in the On3 Consensus, and is a three-star recruit by On3.com.
Brown is ranked the No. 34 linebacker in the nation, and the No. 71 player in Florida by the On3 Consensus.
Following his decommitment, Michigan State has eight four-star recruits in the On3 Consensus Team Rankings. MSU’s class was ranked No. 21 in the nation in the On3 Consensus Team Rankings prior to Brown’s decommitment.
Brown, a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker with good quickness and a sturdy build, took an official visit to Michigan State during the weekend of Nov. 12 and committed on Nov. 13.
Brown had shown interest in visiting Kentucky prior to his de-commitment.
“I would like to thank the coaches at Michigan State and the Spartan family for embracing me and taking me into their family,” Brown said in a post on Instagram. “But after some time and thinking with family, I have decided on decommitting and reopening my recruitment 100 percent.”
Brown is a three-star recruit in the 247 rankings, and a four-star recruit, ranked No. 54 in Florida, by Rivals.com.

At the linebacker position, Michigan State has a commitment from four-star Jordan Hall (6-2, 224) of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He is originally from Fredricksburg, Va.
Michigan State has shown continued interest in four-star linebacker prospects Andrew Harris and Michael Harris of Altamonte Springs, Fla. The twins visited Michigan State in June but eventually committed to Central Florida. Michigan State linebackers coach Ross Els visited the twins two weeks ago.
Central Florida defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Travis Williams left UCF on Saturday to become defensive coordinator at Arkansas. It’s unclear whether Williams’ departure will have an impact on the Harris twins’ commitment to UCF.
If the Harris twins become dislodged from UCF, it’s possible the Spartans could look to add them to the Spartans’ 2023 class, especially with Brown now apparently headed elsewhere.
