EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State has landed its first 2026 commitment.

Carlos Medlock Jr., a three-star point guard and Michigan native, committed to the Spartans on Friday. Medlock chose Michigan State over offers from Michigan, Tennessee, Creighton, Iowa and Washington, among others.

Medlock is the No. 173 player, No. 28 point guard and No. 7 player in Missouri in the 2026 class, per the Rivals Industry Rankings, though his ranking is likely to increase as his senior season nears.

“I chose Michigan State because I genuinely feel that I have a real connection with the whole coaching staff and they make me feel like I’m home.” Medlock told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi, who first reported the news. “I see it as a program where I can go in and help take my game to the next level. They will help me become a better person off the court.”

Medlock’s profile took off while playing for Phenom United on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this summer. The scoring guard averaged 21.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists on 46.5 percent shooting (36.2 percent from three) for Phenom United.

Michigan State became the first Power Five school to offer Medlock, during an unofficial visit to campus on June 16. Since then, six Power Five schools have offered the rising talent.

Medlock is set to return to East Lansing the weekend of Sept. 5 for an official visit.

Medlock – whose father scored over 1,500 points as a star at Eastern Michigan – helped lead Wayne Memorial High School to the MHSAA state championship game last season. The Zebras fell to East Lansing High School, 66-46.

Medlock averaged 24.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game last season for Wayne Memorial. He will play his senior season at Link Academy in Missouri.
