Michigan State’s coaching staff stayed hot on the recruiting trail when they landed speedy 2026 three-star wide receiver Samson Gash, of Detroit (Mich.) Catholic Central High School. Gash (6-0, 180) announced his commitment via social media.

Gash spent the weekend of June 13 in East Lansing for an official visit. He also took an official visit to West Virginia at the beginning of June. Gash then camped at Alabama the weekend of June 20. He earned an offer from the Crimson Tide following the camp. Despite the fresh Alabama offer, Gash committed to the Spartans on Tuesday.

Spartan wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins offered Gash in mid-May. Gash held additional offers from Iowa, Illinois, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and Purdue, among others.

A few weeks after receiving his Michigan State offer, Gash ran a blazing-fast 10.41-second 100-meter dash at the MHSAA state track & field championships. He won the event and ran the second-fastest time in state history. The speedster also clocked a personal-best, nationally-qualifying 21.36-second 200-meter dash time. Gash’s recruitment picked up from there. He received camp invitations from Alabama and Michigan following the event.

Gash tallied 1,513 all-purpose yards as a junior last fall. He caught 42 passes for 731 yards. He also ran for 347 yards on 31 carries. Gash logged 21 total touchdowns that year.

Gash is the No. 929 recruit, No. 106 wide receiver and No. 8 player from Michigan in the 2026 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s the younger brother of Michigan State redshirt sophomore defensive back Caleb Gash.

“My brother (Caleb) was super excited when I got offered because he’s been telling the coaches about me for a while,” Gash previously told SpartanMag. “He’s home from school right now, so when I got home after getting the offer, he was jumping up and down in excitement for me. That was a really special thing for us.”

His father, Sam Gash, played fullback for Penn State in the early 1990s. He spent 11 years in the NFL after getting drafted in 1992. Sam was a member of the 2000 Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl-winning team. His nine-year coaching career included stops with Detroit Lions (2008-12) and Green Bay Packers (2014-15).

Gash becomes Michigan State’s 20th commitment in its 2026 class, and its third wide receiver commit, joining Zachary Washington, of Wheaton (Ill.) St. Francis High School and Tyren Wortham, of Sarasota (Fla.) Booker High School. Those three are joined by four longtime offensive commitments in East Kentwood (Mich.) quarterback Kayd Coffman, North Branch (Mich.) offensive lineman Eli Bickel, Sioux Falls (S.D.) Jefferson tight end Eddie Whiting and Mansfield (Ohio) Lexington tight end Joey Caudill

The Spartans also hold commitments from offensive tackles Quinn Buckey, of Bakersfield (Calif.), Tristan Comer, of Freeland (Mich.) and Collin Campbell, of Gilbert (Ariz.) Williams Field, on the offensive side of the ball.

On defense, Michigan State holds commitments from Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edwards safety Brayden Thomas, Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven rush end Cory House, Frisco (Texas) Lone Star defensive tackle Christopher Knauls, Seattle (Wash.) O’Dea defensive end Fameitau Siale, Middletown (Ohio) safety Jordan Vann, Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek linebacker Braylon Hodge, Hillsdale (NJ) Pascack Valley linebacker Adam Shaw, Jacksonville (Fla.) Impact Christian safety Eliyjah Caldwell-Hardy and Georgia cornerbacks Kelsey Deriso and TJ Umenyiora.
