EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State picked up its third transfer in the last 17 hours when it landed former Indiana State tight end Kai Rios on Sunday, following his official visit to East Lansing. Rios, a redshirt junior, has two years of eligibility remaining.

Rios (6-6, 260) entered the transfer portal on April 18. He reported offers from North Dakota and Kent State, and visited with Vanderbilt on April 22. Rios told SpartanMag’s Kenny Jordan that he also received interest from Sacramento State and South Dakota.

Rios caught eight passes for 69 yards and one touchdown in 21 games over the course of his three seasons at Indiana State. His best statistical performance came on Oct. 12, 2024, when he caught two passes for 23 yards and one touchdown against Murray State.

Rios, a Rock Island (Ill.) High School product, joins a Michigan State tight end room that returns starters Jack Velling and Michael Masunas, as well as junior Brennan Parachek and redshirt freshman Wyatt Hook. Former three-star recruit Jayden Savoury will join the program later this summer.

Michigan State earned transfer commitments from former Bowling Green safety Tracy Revels and former Texas-San Antonio cornerback Anthony Pinnace within the last 17 hours. The Spartans have also brought in rush ends Isaac Smith (Texas Tech) and Jack Lamancusa (Hope College) during the spring portal window.
