Michigan State redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Braden Miller has entered the transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed on Tuesday. Miller spent the previous two seasons in East Lansing. The 6-foot-7, 314-pound tackle had not yet cracked the rotation group, as he redshirted in 2022, then played limited snaps in three games in 2023.

Miller had a season-high eight snaps in his debut against Richmond. He also earned an Academic All-Big Ten selection. The lineman went through the spring in East Lansing under offensive line coach Jim Michalczik and the new Michigan State staff, but opted to enter the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Originally of Aurora, Colo., Miller was a three-star recruit out of high school. He was signed by the previous Spartan staff over offers from Michigan, Tennessee and Arizona State, among others. His older brother, Barrett Miller, was formerly a three-year starter for Stanford.

The Spartans have also seen departures from redshirt freshman running back Jaelon Barbarin and junior linebacker Ma’a Gaoteote so far during the spring transfer window. SpartanMag has not detected any other buzz regarding unexpected departures, but the spring transfer window runs from April 16 to April 30.

Michigan State will be in the market for new additions via the portal as well. Wide receiver, cornerback, defensive line and running back are positions to watch. With Miller now in the portal, the Spartans could possibly look for offensive line depth as well.

Michalczik and the Spartans added depth to the interior offensive line this winter in center Tanner Miller. Miller is expected to start at center, while the Spartans return guards Geno VanDeMark, Kristian Phillips and Gavin Broscious, among others.

Michigan State also added Holy Cross transfer Luke Newman, who could slot in at multiple positions, and possibly provide depth at the tackle position as well.
