Michigan State signs 2026 three-star Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic CB TJ Umenyiora
Michigan State received a signature from 2026 three-star cornerback TJ Umenyiora, of Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic, on Wednesday.
Umenyiora (6-1, 185) chose the Spartans over Auburn, Mississippi State and Kentucky, among others, back in June. SEC programs continued to push into the fall, but Umenyiora remained solid in his commitment.
Umenyiora briefly re-opened his recruitment upon the firing of former head coach Jonathan Smith, but like several of his classmates, shut his recruitment down after speaking to Pat Fitzgerald.
Umenyiora is the son of former NFL defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora. Osi played college football at Troy before the New York Giants selected him in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft. The 12-year NFL veteran was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl champion.

“My dad is very high on Michigan State, and he has a strong influence on my college decision,” Umenyiora previously told SpartanMag. “He was teammates with Plaxico Burress, and he talks very highly of Michigan State. My dad is in favor of it based on that, and this visit kind of solidified that.”
Umenyiora is the No. 1,161 recruit in the 2026 class, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 110 cornerback and No. 114 player from Georgia in his class.
SCOUTING REPORT
Umenyiora is a prototypical outside cornerback. He was high on the former Michigan State’s staff board, as his length and speed at the position makes him stand out. Umenyiora logged 21 tackles (two for a loss and one sack as a senior this fall, according to MaxPreps.
