Michigan State walk-on WR Cade McDonald transfers to Miami (Ohio)

Michigan State walk-on wide receiver Cade McDonald announced on Monday that he will transfer to Miami (Ohio). McDonald made his decision official by releasing a graphic to Twitter.
McDonald (5-11, 195, Naperville, Ill.) spent four years at Michigan State. He played in 11 games last season, spending time at wide receiver and punt returner. McDonald totaled three receptions for 31 yards on offense in 2022. He also logged four punt returns for 44 yards.
In total, McDonald recorded five receptions for 46 yards during his time at Michigan State, along with five punt returns for 43 yards. He was a three-time letter winner and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as well.
McDonald redshirted his freshman season in 2019 after playing three snaps in his collegiate debut against Rutgers. He was named Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week for that game against the Scarlet Knights.

McDonald was high school teammates at Naperville Central with former Michigan State quarterback Payton Thorne, who recently transferred to Auburn, as well as wide receiver Jayden Reed, who spent four seasons at Michigan State before getting picked by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

McDonald set single-season program records with 91 receptions, 1,397 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns during his senior season at Naperville Central. He also helped lead Naperville Central to the DuPage Valley Conference Championship that season.
McDonald will look to earn more playing time at Miami (Ohio) while remaining close to home in the Mid-American Conference. The redshirt senior has two years of eligibility remaining.
