EAST LANSING, Mich. – For the first time since 2010, Michigan State players have been named Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in the same week.

Michigan State junior quarterback Aidan Chiles has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and junior linebacker Jordan Hall has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following their performances in the 42-40 double-overtime victory over Boston College on Saturday night at Spartan Stadium.

It marks the first time Michigan State has had players win both honors for the same game quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive lineman Tyler Hoover earned the honor for their performances against Northwestern. Punter Aaron Bates was also named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week following Michigan State’s 35-27 victory over Northwestern on Oct. 23 in Evanston, Ill., which propelled No. 8-ranked Michigan State to an 8-0 record.

Last Saturday night, Michigan State improved to 2-0 as Chiles threw four touchdown passes and ran for another against Boston College while completing 19 of 29 passes for 231 yards. He also threw to Omari Kelly for the game-winning pass on MSU’s 2-point conversion in double overtime.

Chiles compiled a total of 270 yards of offense, rushing 12 times for a net of 39 yards. He gained a total of 68 yards rushing, against 28 yards in losses due to sacks. He had five rushes which gained first downs or a touchdown.

Chiles threw two touchdown passes to Nick Marsh (11 yards and 41 yards) and one each to Michael Masunas (3 yards) and Jay Coyne (5 yards in first overtime).

Chiles (6-3, 225, Long Beach, Calif.) was also recognized by the Davey O’Brien Award on Monday for one of the “Great 8” performances of the week and will be added to the Davey O’Brien Award midseason watch list. In addition, Chiles was named one of eight stars of the week by the Manning Award.

Hall recorded a career-high 15 tackles, including nine solo stops, in the win over Boston College. Early in the first quarter, Hall forced a fumble near the goal line to prevent an Eagle touchdown as Armorion Smith recovered the ball for the Spartans.

Hall (6-3, 238, Jr., Fredericksburg, Va.) leads Michigan State and ranks No. 4 in the in the Big Ten with 23 tackles. He also has 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
