EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State might be without its leading receiver and leading rusher when the Spartans play at USC, late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith indicated during his weekly press conference on Monday at Spartan Stadium that wide receiver Nick Marsh and running back Makhi Frazier are questionable for the game.

“Marsh and Frazier, we will see what it looks like at the end of the week,” Smith said, after adressing other injury situations on the team.

As required by the Big Ten, Michigan State will release an availability report two hours before kickoff on Saturday. Michigan State rarely lists players as officially “questionable” on gameday, routinely choosing to release an “out” list. It remains to be seen how Michigan State will categorize Marsh’s and Frazier’s status on Saturday.

Frazier went down with a lower body injury in the fourth quarter of Michigan State’s 41-24 victory over Youngstown State on Saturday. Marsh left the game late in the second quarter and didn’t play in the second half. Smith confirmed on Monday that Marsh’s injury is a lower body injury.

Smith said starting right guard Luka Vincic and kick returner Alante Brown will be out substantially longer.

“Luka Vincic will be a longer-term injury,” Smith said. “Probably won’t see him the rest of the year, which is tough. He was battling in there.

“Brown, that is going to be a longer-term injury as well. So he won’t be around for a minute.”

As for Marsh and Frazier, Smith added, “Those two are not anywhere near the other two (Vincic and Brown) in regards to the amount of time.”

Vincic went down with a lower body injury midway through the Youngstown State game. He had missed portions of preseason practice with an undisclosed ailment. He missed the opening game against Western Michigan. He returned to the field for the second game against Washington, starting the second half of that game.

Frazier leads Michigan State in rushing with 206 yards, at a clip of 4.8 per carry and 68.6 per game. He rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries in the opener against Western Michigan.

Marsh, who set a freshman school record for receptions and yards receiving last year, leads Michigan State with 16 catches for 194 yards.
