Recruitment
Michigan was one of the first programs to offer Bonner as his recruitment started to surge late last year. He piled up a lengthy Power Four offer list before narrowing things down his top schools list to five programs— Texas Tech, Miami, Nebraska, Minnesota and Michigan. The Wolverines and Gophers emerged as his finalists, and he planned on taking official visits to both universities at one point. Tight ends coach Steve Casula made a spring trip out to Colorado to see him and, shortly after that visit, Bonner shut things down and committed to the Wolverines.
He Said It
“They just made me feel like family,” Bonner said. “It’s really what they want to do with that program—’team over me’ is what they say—and I just loved my trip up there. It was awesome.”
They Said It
“Coach Moore’s been amazing. Coach Casula is a different-level human. They’ve just been unbelievably supportive, and it was kind of a no-brainer for Mason.

“He made a decision, and we’re like, ‘Okay, we’re with it,’ and then we were 100 percent behind it because of being around those men. And every time we saw those men—and even when we didn’t see them— they call or they text. They’re checking in.” — Sherdrick Bonner, Mason’s father and Mullen High assistant coach.
Scouting Report
“Bonner is a tall, athletic pass-catching tight end. A guy who needs to continue growing into his body, but he certainly has the movement skills and also has the ball skills as well that you covet in a tight end who you want to create a mismatch in the passing game.”
“He looks to run well. He is a guy who can stretch the field. I think the overall movement skills are very appealing. Obviously, being taller and athletic, I think he projects to have a good catch radius as well. And then, you like that he plays basketball at the high school level, just giving him some versatility, coordination and athleticism that you like to see at the position.” — Rivals director of scouting and rankings Charles Power.
