Where Michigan basketball stands in AP poll top 25 rankings following 4-0 start
Michigan Wolverines basketball has remained in its same spot in the Associated Press top 25 following a 1-0 week. The Maize and Blue are still No. 7 in the country.
Michigan is behind No. 1 Purdue, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Houston, No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Connecticut and No. 6 Louisville.
The Wolverines are 4-0 with wins over Oakland (121-78), Wake Forest (85-84 in OT), Texas Christian (67-63) and Middle Tennessee State (86-61).
Michigan is one of six Big Ten teams currently ranked, joined by No. 1 Purdue, No. 11 Michigan State, No. 13 Illinois, No. 18 UCLA and No. 25 Indiana.
Michigan is scheduled to play eight games against seven teams that are in the top 25 right now: at No. 1 Purdue (Feb. 17), vs. No. 4 Duke (Feb. 21 in Washington D.C.), vs. No. 11 Michigan State (at MSU Jan. 30, home game March 8), at No. 13 Illinois (Feb. 27), vs. No. 18 UCLA (Feb. 14), vs. No. 21 Auburn (Nov. 25 in Las Vegas) and vs. No. 25 Indiana (Jan. 20).

Coming out of the third week of the college basketball season, the Wolverines rank No. 15 in the nation on KenPom — 43rd on offense and sixth on defense. The Wolverines have played the 95th-toughest schedule in the country.
Michigan will take on San Diego State Monday and Auburn Tuesday in the Players Era Festival multi-team event in Las Vegas.
“Nothing gives me confidence that we’re going to pick up a few quality wins other than just we have a really good team, and we’re capable of playing really good basketball,” Michigan head coach Dusty May said after the Middle Tennessee State win. “… The confidence that I have to go get a couple wins is simply because we have a really, really good staff and really, really good players. That’s it right now. Now it’s time to turn the page and start studying for what we need to do.”
