The Michigan Wolverines are on the hunt for a new football head coach after the firing of Sherrone Moore with cause due to an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.

That was only the beginning of a day that will now live in infamy, not only in Ann Arbor, but in college football history. Shortly after news of Moore’s firing broke, it was revealed that he was in police custody in Pittsfield, assisted by the Saline Police Department, and later transferred to Washtenaw County Jail.

A statement released from the Pittsfield police department read as follows, saying Moore is being investigated for assault after being picked up at the 300 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road:

“The Pittsfield Police Department responded to the above location at the above date and time for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault. The Department has received multiple media requests for information. A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community. The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor. At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible.”
