Michigan football: Cornerback Andre Seldon enters the transfer portal

Michigan second-year cornerback Andre Seldon is the latest to enter the transfer portal. Seldon played sparingly at Michigan and was buried on the depth chart.
A consensus four-star prospect out of Belleville High School, the 5-8, 173-pound Seldon earned his Michigan scholarship by outperforming bigger players at camps. He notched 27 tackles, six interceptions and three pass breakups as a senior, including one pick-six, and added four punt returns for touchdowns.
Seldon also notched six interceptions and 18 tackles as a junior, but he never found his niche at Michigan. He played in only two games, last year at Rutgers and this year against Northern Illinois.
There were rumors this spring that Seldon might leave the program. His father, however, shot them down in a late-April tweet.
“Andre Seldon Jr. is not transferring from Michigan,” he wrote. “I don’t know where [you’re] getting info from. My son is a warrior waiting on his opportunity and getting the best education.

Reporters asked secondary coach Steve Clinkscale this fall specifically about Seldon. Clinkscale recruited him while at Kentucky and had a great relationship with him.
If anyone was going to get the Michigan corner to excel at U-M, it would have been him.
“I really have seen improvement,” he said. “I’ve known Andre a long time, since about the eighth grade. I see areas of improvement and I still continue to want to push him, want to continue to see him make strides forward at the nickel position. So, I’m challenging him.”
He’ll be challenged elsewhere next year.
