There’s much anticipation heading into the Michigan Wolverines football season, and TheWolverine.com is counting down the days until the Sept. 3 opener against Colorado State. We’ll discuss current Michigan events, the upcoming season and/or take a look at a significant number that correlates with how many days remain until kickoff, whether it be a player’s jersey number, a year, a date, a score, etc.

Michigan football kicks off its season in 39 days but unofficially gets the leadup to the 2022 season going on Tuesday in Indianapolis. That sees them return to the scene of the crime in a venue where it captured its first Big Ten Championship since 2004.

The Wolverines thrashed Iowa 42-3 the last time it was at Lucas Oil Stadium, a 39-point margin of victory. Members of the team announced themselves as hopeful contenders last summer in Indy. A little less than five months later, Michigan hoisted a trophy at midfield.

Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson planted the seed long before Michigan’s 12-2 campaign, win over Ohio State and conference title. It was at media day last summer that he spoke his goal into existence.

“I’m 0-2 against Ohio State and we didn’t play them last year, so it’s going to be two years when we play them in November.  We prepare for Ohio State every single day. In the weight room, in the walk-throughs – every day we’ve got one thing on our mind and that’s Ohio State, and what are we going to do to beat them.”

“When you’re working out and you’re grinding out that last rep, when you think you can’t go anymore, all I think of is 2019 sitting on that bench, being down two touchdowns and not being able to do a damn thing about it.  That allows me to do two or three more reps, something that I think I wasn’t even capable of.  So having Ohio State there in the back of my mind every day is something that drives me.”

Four seniors will comprise Michigan’s contingent on Thursday. Quarterback Cade McNamara, defensive tackle Mazi Smith, tight end Erick All and cornerback DJ Turner will speak in addition to two sessions with head coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh will speak at 12:30 p.m. ET from the podium and then have an informal session with the media later in the afternoon. Players will speak earlier in the afternoon.

Who will plant the seeds for a Michigan run during their press conferences on Tuesday? Keep it locked in at The Wolverine for expansive coverage throughout.
