Former four-star OL Andrew Gentry commits to Michigan football
Michigan Wolverines football coaches are on the road this week, and have sealed the deal with a target who has reemerged. Former four-star recruit from the class of 2020 and offensive tackle Andrew Gentry has made his pledge to the Maize and Blue, his father, Todd Gentry, tells TheWolverine.com.

The 6-8, 310-pounder originally signed with Virginia but took a two-year church mission trip. Cavalier head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced he was stepping down from the program last week, opening the door for Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, co-offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore and Co. to court him to the Wolverines once again. The staff spoke with Gentry Monday and secured his commitment.
Gentry will sign during the upcoming early period, which begins Dec. 15, finish his mission in May of 2022 and enroll to Michigan in the fall. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
The Littleton, Colo., native was highly interested in the Wolverines during his original recruitment. He made his official visit for the program’s 45-14 win over Notre Dame in October of 2019, and left impressed. His relationship with Harbaugh has been strong, one of the reasons why Michigan was able to swoop in this time.

“Coach Harbaugh is one of the most known coaches in college football and coaches in general,” Gentry told TheWolverine.com in 2019. “For him to be able to come in and talk to everybody like he’s your best friend, that was super cool and impressive.”
The Michigan experience left an impression on his family members who also made it to campus.
“They were super impressed,” Gentry said. “They love what Michigan is about. My uncle was able to join us, too. My parents both came on my official. They all said kind of the same things, like how cool it was that they were willing to talk to you. They were impressed, for sure.”
Gentry is one of three offensive lineman who are slated to join the Maize and Blue ahead of the 2022 campaign, joining Windsor (Conn.) Loomis Chaffee unranked prospect Alessandro Lorenzetti and Monument (Colo.) Palmer Ridge three-star tackle Connor Jones. The Wolverines’ 2022 class currently ranks 14th nationally and third in the Big Ten, behind only Ohio State and Penn State. Michigan holds 20 commitments from 2022 recruits, plus Gentry’s pledge.
