Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was pleased with his team’s win, acknowledging there was a lot of work still to do heading into Saturday’s game with Maryland. No. 1 is getting some of his players back, including a running back.

During Saturday’s broadcast of U-M’s 24-22 win over Northwestern at Wrigley Field, announcer Gus Johnson reported that Justice Haynes was “done for the year.” Moore refuted that during his Monday press conference.

“I don’t think he’ll be … we’ll see as the doctors go, but as far as done for the year, I wouldn’t put him in that category,” Moore said.

Asked later if he was done for the regular season, though — which means he’ll miss the Ohio State game — Moore confirmed that was the case.

“Yeah, probably,” the Michigan coach said. “Yes.”

As for Jordan Marshall, who ran for nearly 150 yards against Northwestern before leaving in the fourth quarter after a nice run, Moore confirmed it was a shoulder injury.

“Same kind of thing I told you after the game … X-rays were negative,” Moore said. “I feel good about where he’s at, but we’ll see. We’ll take it day by day and see where he’s at.”

Asked how confident he was Marshall would at least be back for Ohio State, Moore responded, “Pretty confident. But … we’ll see.”

Shoulder injuries can be tricky, but folks close to Kalel Mullings told us the former U-M back played the Ohio State game with a partially separated shoulder (and ankle sprain later in the game) in a valiant effort. The hope, obviously, is it’s not that serious and Marshall is back to full health as soon as possible.

If Marshall can’t go Saturday, former walk-on Bryson Kuzdzal (53 yards Saturday vs. Northwestern) will likely get the call.

“If Bryson has to be the guy, I feel very comfortable with him. He’s explosive,” Moore sid. “He’s probably faster than Jordan … probably not as strong, but maybe. He’s a strong kid for how built he is. He’s about 5-11, 6-foot, 210 or 215.

“He’s got burst. He’s probably right below Justice in the speed, but maybe right at that, and can get there. But he’s a physical runner. He’s gotten more physical. He’s a great kid that has just worked his tail off to get where he needs to be, and I’m excited to see what he does.”

Finally, tight end Zack Marshall was banged up late in the game, but he should be good to go Saturday.

“Yeah, he’s doing good,” Moore said. “I actually saw him here this morning. He was here bright and early. I got here and he was just pulling up, so it was good to see. He’s getting treatment, but he’s in good shape. It looks like he’ll be fine for the week.

“He’s meant a lot, because he’s one of those guys that he just does everything right. The big pass the week before against Purdue, the trick play, he’d never run that in practice. It was the first time with him running it. Marlin [Klein] goes down, he goes in, knows exactly what to do, exactly how to do it, and that’s just the type of guy he is. You can trust him. He’s going to work his tail off and go make plays.”
