Newsstand: Sights and sounds from Michigan football at Lawry's Beef Bowl

Tweets Of The Day
Michigan football took some time away from preparing for the Rose Bowl against Alabama for a night at Lawry’s Prime Rib in Beverly Hills, Calif. This was the 67th annual Lawry’s Beef Bowl, though it’s no longer a competition on who can eat more beef. Alabama will head to the establishment Friday night.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed the crowd, giving tips on what cut of prime rib to get depending on each person’s taste and congratulating his team on making it to this point. This was Harbaugh’s third Beef Bowl, after coming to the event and Rose Bowl twice as a U-M player in the 1980s.
Michigan senior defensive tackle Kris Jenkins was chosen to spin the salad at the outset of the meal. Graduate left guard Trevor Keegan cut the first piece of meat, and senior right guard Zak Zinter was named the Beef Bowl scholar athlete.

While Jenkins was the honorary salad spinner, he’s not a ‘salad guy.’
Michigan junior quarterback J.J McCarthy arrives at the event:

Quote Of The Day
“I like it because you get rewarded for what you do, especially on big stages like this. When there was no NIL, I think it was kind of messed up. You’re playing on TV … even when they had NCAA , people in the game didn’t get paid for it. I love it, especially because you get paid earlier than what you could have … it was you went to NFL, then you get paid. There are chances to get paid now.”
