Michigan to hire Chip Lindsey as new offensive coordinator

Earlier today, we reported there were rumblings Michigan was zeroing in on Chip Lindsey as its next offensive coordinator. Sources later told us U-M was finalizing a deal with the former Troy head coach and North Carolina O.C., and tonight they and others are confirming Lindsey has been hired.
As reported earlier, the 50-year-old worked with Gus Malzahn at Auburn before taking the head coaching job at Troy. He went 15-19 there in three years before rejoining Malzahn at UCF as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He led the Knights’ offense to a No. 26 ranking nationally in scoring, 11th in yards per game, and 8th in rushing.
North Carolina finished 37th in total offense with 423.4 yards per game, 35th in scoring at 32.3 points per game, and 31st in rushing offense (189.5) this year. The Tar Heels were tied for 32nd at 4.86 yards per rush.
Head coach Sherrone Moore told media tonight he was set to make an announcement soon. He has been working diligently to find not only the best playcaller, but the right fit for what he wants the program to be … Lindsey is his guy.

“You’ve got to have urgency in everything you do,” Moore said. “I always have that urgency all the time in whatever I’m doing. But we want to make sure we found the right fit, the right person not only scheme wise, football-wise, development-wise, like I talked about … but have to have to love for this place.
“When they walk into this building, you can feel the love that I have injected into that. I want that type of person to lead our offense, and I think we’re in that place.”
