Those who transferred: How former Michigan players are performing at new schools

Michigan Wolverines football saw 24 scholarship players leave the program through the NCAA transfer portal following the 2024 season, landing at new schools. Here’s a look at how each is performing so far this fall.

OL Raheem Anderson II, Western Michigan

Raheem Anderson II has played in all four games with one start for 1-3 Western Michigan, registering a 64.4 overall PFF rating, highlighted by a 79.1 pass-blocking grade. Anderson has played left guard (14 snaps), center (113) and right guard (28). He opened the last game — a 14-13 victory over Toledo — at center.

EDGE Kechaun Bennett, UCLA

Kechaun Bennett has started two of three games and totaled the second-most EDGE snaps on the team (103). He’s totaled 11 tackles, including 1 for loss, and 7 pressures for the 0-3 Bruins.

OL Tristan Bounds, Arizona

The 6-foot-8, 291-pound Tristan Bounds started the season opener but has come off the bench the previous two contests for the 3-0 Wildcats, totaling 168 offensive snaps. He’s recorded a 68.3 overall PFF grade with 6 pressures, including 1 sack, given up.

RB Cole Cabana, Western Michigan

Cole Cabana has appeared in one game — versus Illinois Sept. 13 — and rushed twice for 2 yards.

QB Jayden Denegal, San Diego State

Jayden Denegal won San Diego State’s starting quarterback job to begin the season and has led the Aztecs to a 2-1 start, highlighted by a 34-0 win over California.

Denegal is completing 58.9 percent of his passes (43-of-73) for 529 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. He has 19 rush attempts for minus-4 yards. Denegal was an efficient 15-of-18 for 189 yards and a touchdown pass while taking only 1 sack against Cal.

P Tommy Doman, Florida

A third-team All-Big Ten honoree at Michigan in 2024, Tommy Doman is averaging 46.1 yards per punt with a 63-yard long. He’s kicked 2 touchbacks but pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line on 6 of his 17 attempts. He also has 6 boots of 50-plus yards. Doman leads the nation with a 4.51-second average hangtime (minimum 5 attempts).

Doman’s numbers to this point mark significant improvement from last season at Michigan, when he averaged 42.6 yards per punt on 49 attempts.

RB Tavierre Dunlap, Eastern Michigan

Tavierre Dunlap is Eastern Michigan’s second-leading rusher, with 37 attempts for 119 yards and a team-best 3 touchdowns. He’s earning carries behind senior Dontae McMillan, who’s gone for 345 yards and a score on 49 rushes. Dunlap has also reeled in 5 receptions for 59 yards with a 39-yard long. Dunlap ran 11 times for 45 yards and 2 scores in the Eagles’ first win of the season, a 34-31 triumph over Louisiana Sept. 20.

OL Andrew Gentry, BYU

Andrew Gentry took over the starting right tackle job before suffering a season-ending foot injury at Michigan last season. He’s taken over at the same position for 3-0 BYU this year, starting all three games and playing 162 snaps.

Gentry has recorded a 71.2 overall PFF rating with an 81.6 pass-blocking grade that ranks 20th among FBS tackles (minimum 75 snaps). He’s allowed 1 pressure and no sacks.

OL Dominick Giudice, Missouri

Michigan’s starting center to begin last season, Dominick Giudice is off to a hot start with Missouri. He was named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Outland Trophy National Player of the Week for his performance in a win over Kansas Sept. 6, opening up holes for a 261-yard rushing effort.

Giudice has started all four games at left guard, generating a 64.6 overall PFF grade and 71.2 pass-blocking rating. He’s given up 5 pressures and no sacks.

RB Benjamin Hall, North Carolina

Benjamin Hall has carried 15 times for 44 yards with a 10-yard long in three appearances for North Carolina.

LB Jason Hewlett Jr., Boston College

Jason Hewlett Jr. has posted 2 tackles in one game — a 42-40 double-overtime setback at Michigan State.

EDGE Breeon Ishmail, Purdue

Breeon Ishmail has played 73 defensive snaps, the fourth-most among Purdue EDGEs, this season. He’s tallied 6 tackles and 4 pressures in four games for the 2-2 Boilermakers.

CB Kody Jones, Kennesaw State

Originally committing to Memphis, Kody Jones went portaling again and chose Kennesaw State. He’s appeared in three games on defense, totaling 68 snaps at safety and nickel back. He’s been targeted 10 times in coverage, yielding 7 receptions, 80 yards and a touchdown.

EDGE Aymeric Koumba, Central Florida

Aymeric Koumba has played in two contests, registering 1 tackle. He’s played only 16 defensive snaps.

DT Alessandro Lorenzetti, Baylor

Alessandro Lorenzetti has yet to appear in game action for the 2-2 Baylor Bears.

CB Ja’Den McBurrows, Appalachian State

Ja’Den McBurrows has started all three games for 2-1 Appalachian State, generating a 72.4 PFF coverage rating. He’s given up 9 receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown on 17 targets in coverage. He’s totaled 11 tackles and had an interception, which came in a 34-11 win over Charlotte Aug. 29.

WR Tyler Morris, Indiana

Tyler Morris tore his ACL during spring practice and will miss the 2025 season.

QB Alex Orji, UNLV

Alex Orji started at quarterback in UNLV’s season-opening win over Idaho State but totaled only 15 snaps. He played sparingly off the bench in each of the next two contests, before suffering a season-ending leg injury during the Sept. 6 win over UCLA.

Orji’s final numbers for the season: 3-of-3 passing for 37 yards, 10 rushes for 42 yards, 1 touchdown

OL Jeff Persi, Pittsburgh

Jeffrey Persi has started all three games for the 2-1 Panthers, registering a 66.6 overall PFF grade and 76.7 mark in pass blocking. He’s given up 3 pressures with no sacks.

LB Micah Pollard, Liberty

Micah Pollard was a key special teams player at Michigan and has mostly played in that phase of the game with Liberty. He’s totaled 6 defensive snaps and been in on 17 special teams plays in four appearances, making 1 tackle.

CB Myles Pollard, Memphis

Myles Pollard hasn’t seen any game action this season for the 4-0 Memphis Tigers.

K Adam Samaha, Akron

Adam Samaha is Akron’s third-team kicker and hasn’t appeared in any games.

DT Owen Wafle, Penn State

Owen Wafle has played two games and made 1 tackle in a 52-6 win over Villanova Sept. 13. He’s totaled 44 defensive snaps.

WR Amorion Walker, Middle Tennessee State

Amorion Walker has hauled in 9 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown in four games for the 1-3 Blue Raiders. He’s made multiple catches in every contest and ranks fourth on the team and third among wide receivers with 13 targets.
