Wolverine TV podcast: Juwan Howard altercation, latest on football transfer portal pursuits
The Michigan Wolverines grabbed a huge 90-80 win at Iowa on Sunday afternoon as it looks to start a climb after a rough patch to start the season. Unfortunately, what followed was an unwelcome piece of drama added to the equation.
Head coach Juwan Howard and strength and conditioning coach were reportedly involved in a confrontation at practice late last week that led to a verbal spat, prompting a university review. The Wolverine’s Anthony Broome and Clayton Sayfie discussed the situation on Monday’s show.
“I think it’s kind of label it as its own thing, and it’s certainly not a great situation,” Sayfie said. “To have any sort of altercation that has to go to a university review, actually a third party, to review it for the university is not ideal, and especially when it comes to your head coach and a beloved member of the staff, Jon Sanderson, who’s been a key part of this thing since he was hired here. Those who follow the program and those outside of the program understand how big of a piece Jon Sanderson has been to all of this.
“The fact that there was an altercation is not good. And the fact that there’s debate, whether or not it got physical or not is, is even worse. And it sounds like it happened at practice too, in front of the players.

“I will say first and foremost, hats off to the players for what they did going in and and blocking out the noise to use a term we’ve used a decent amount lately with things going on in the football side, but to block out the noise and to just kind of focus on the task at hand and go get a double-digit road victory in the Big Ten you have to congratulate them for that. But I did think it was odd.”
