Wolverine TV: Breaking down new Michigan TE commit Mason Bonner

Michigan scored an important win on the recruiting trail, landing three-star Denver (Colo.) Mullen tight end Mason Bonner. The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shares his thoughts on what this recruiting win means for the Wolverines.

Bonner Recruitment
Michigan extended an offer to Bonner in December of last year and made him a top overall target throughout the cycle.
The Wolverines hosted Bonner this spring and also flew out to Colorado to meet with him. U-M tight ends coach Steve Casula returned to Colorado this week and had a great conversation with Bonner and those around him. That visit ultimately sealed the deal for the Wolverines.
Bonner’s commitment came shortly after the Wolverines landed Top 100 Billings (Mont.) West tight end Matt Ludwig.
Here is what Holland had to say about Bonner.
“Bonner is a great complement to Ludwig,” Holland said. “He’s in that 6-foot-6 or 6-foot-7 range and is a tall, athletic pass catcher with plenty of upside. He spends a lot of time split out at wide receiver and is a mismatch nightmare at the high school level. He high points the ball well and has an outstanding catch radius. He also has good speed for his size and even stretches the field vertically. He doesn’t have much in-line experience, so the biggest question mark here is his ability as a blocker. But he has the frame to carry plenty of good weight.”
