Wolverines Will Take On Future Big Ten Foe Washington In CFP National Championship Game

PASADENA, Calif. – The Michigan Wolverines took care of business in the Rose Bowl and their matchup in the CFP national title game is set. U-M will face No. 2 seed and future Big Ten conference member Washington in Houston on Jan. 8 for all the marbles.
The Vegas odds were already set shortly after Washington’s 37-31 win over Texas went final. According to the FanDuel Sportsbook, Michigan opens up as a five-point favorite with the over/under set at 54.5 points. ESPN’s SP+ metric has U-M as a 13.5-point favorite in the contest.
Michigan is 8-5 all-time against the Huskies with its most recent win coming as a 31-10 victory at the Big House on Sept. 11, 2021. Washington’s last victory in the series came in 2002 by a 31-29 margin. The teams will meet next season on Oct. 5 in Seattle.
In the here and now, Michigan is celebrating its victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide in Pasadena. It is the team’s first College Football Playoff win and snaps a six-game bowl losing streak for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
“It’s what it means to these guys, to our players the most, to them, to be champions, for their parents to have their son be a champion, their brothers and sisters, their grandparents, for our coaches, for my kids to have a dad be a champion, my parents, just those people to get to feel what that’s like,” Harbaugh said after the win.
“That’s kind of long gone for me. My joy, my ecstatic joy is for our players and our coaches and our fans and our families, that they get to experience that joy of being a champion.”
Monday night’s national title game from NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, is set for 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast via ESPN.
