NC State landed a commit from one of its priority class of 2024 recruiting targets Wednesday evening when Asaad Brown II announced his college choice. The three-star defensive back chose the Wolfpack over offers from Florida State, Clemson and many others.

After visiting NC State March 3, Brown named the ACC program the leader of his recruitment. Less than three weeks later, he decided he had seen enough and shut down his recruitment. The defensive back announced the decision on Twitter.

“It’s been a long and tough journey,” Brown wrote on Twitter. “I’ve encountered many obstacles on and off the field. I’ve been doubted, taken for granted and abandoned when it mattered the most. Through the love and strength of God, my family, friends and coaches, I’ve overcome all adversity and stayed focused. I appreciate everyone who’s been on my journey with me!  I’m thankful and blessed to announce IM COMMITTED TO NC STATE ! To my NEW BERN family, I’m coming home!”

Nickels coach Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay was Brown’s primary recruiter.

Brown is the third commit of the Wolfpack’s 2024 recruiting class, joining quarterback Cedrick Bailey Jr. and linebacker Cannon Lewis.

At 6-0, 175 pounds, the On3 industry Ranking considers Brown the No. 14 prospect in Virginia, the No. 656 recruit in the country and the No. 58 cornerback nationally.

Relationships with nickels coach Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay, freshman cornerback Brandon Cisse and redshirt-sophomore cornerback Nate Evans helped draw him back to campus last week.

“I really like what they have going on at NC State as always,” Brown said. “I’ve had a relationship with them about as long as I’ve had with any other school, so I definitely wanted to get back out there.”

According to a source, the cornerback spent time with Aughtry-Lindsay, defensive coordinator Tony Gibson and head coach Dave Doeren while on his visit. He also watched the Pack’s Friday evening practice under the lights and left with a great impression.

“It was organized, number one,” Brown said. “And then, you couldn’t tell the ones from the threes. Everybody was getting coached up. I could definitely see the development there.”

Brown is from Portsmouth, Virginia, and has family in New Bern, North Carolina. Former Wolfpack recruiting target Keith Sampson Jr. is the cornerback’s first cousin. Staying close to home is a priority for Brown, which is part of the reason why NC State is standing out.

“That’s one of the biggest things,” Brown said. “I’ve still got a younger brother that plays sports as well and, being close, I still want to be able to support him. I have a tight-knit family, and I’m always with my parents.”
