NC State picked up its fourth wide receiver commit of the 2024 cycle Thursday morning when three-star pass catcher Christian Zachary pledged to the Wolfpack.

The 6-3 receiver, who plays for Saint Matthews (S.C.) Calhoun County High, committed to the Wolfpack while on an official visit last weekend and has now made the news public.

“NC State has always been a place I’ve seen myself,” Zachary said after his trip to Raleigh. “I grew up as an NC State fan and a Clemson fan. When they threw the offer, I was pretty excited. It was definitely a team that I always wanted to play for.”

Zachary made his first visit to campus in June, just a few day after making a commitment to UVA. Then, he received an offer from the Wolfpack, which started to change the landscape of his recruitment. NC State made him a clear priority from there, and he ended up scheduling his fall official visit.

Wolfpack wide receivers coach Joker Phillips built a strong bond with the future member of the program.

“Coach Joker is a great guy, a guy that you want to be around,” Zachary said. “He makes his players comfortable and allows them to be themselves. He’s a funny guy, and he coaches hard.”

During his official visit, he spend time with his host, freshman cornerback Brandon Cisse, and other future teammates and said he had a great time with them. Zachary knew he wanted to join the class halfway through his visit, and he met with head coach Dave Doeren to let him know.

NC State hosted him on a game day weekend so he could soak in the Carter-Finley Stadium atmosphere for the first time. He left very impressed by the environment.

“I’ve been to a couple of colleges, and I haven’t seen fans like that ever,” he said.

The receiver decommitted from Virginia Oct. 2 and publicly joined the Pack 3 days later. He also held offers from Duke, Cincinnati and others.

He is the No. 20 recruit in the Wolfpack’s 2024 class and joined Jonathan Paylor, Terrell Anderson and Jimmar Boston in a very talented wide receiver group. The 3-star prospect is the No. 142 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 13 recruit in South Carolina.

Through 3 games with reported stats, Zachary posted 13 catches for 306 yards and 4 touchdowns.
