NC State landed another transfer portal commitment from a key official visitor Sunday evening. Former Maryland cornerback Corey Coley Jr. announced he is joining the Wolfpack following his trip to Raleigh.

He spent the weekend with the program and committed after announcing he planned to enter the transfer portal Dec. 3. NC State was his only public official visit, and he decided to wrap up his recruitment quickly and spend his final season of eligibility with the Pack.

Standing 6-2, 187 pounds, Coley recorded 9 total tackles (6 solo) and 2 pass breakups this season. He started a pair of games against Ohio State and Illinois. He played 387 snaps this fall, including 250 as an outside cornerback. The defensive back started a total of 6 matchups over 3 years with Maryland, including 3 during his freshman year.

Coley appeared in all 12 games for Maryland and finished the year with a 62.0 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade. He finished with above average marks in run defense (69.8) and tackling (67.3). In coverage, he allowed 7 receptions on 14 targets. Over 3 years, he has only missed 5 tackles.

This fall, he shared a secondary with priority nickel recruit Tamarcus Cooley, who also visited the Wolfpack this weekend.

Out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy, the defensive back committed to Maryland over offers from LSU, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and many others. On3’s Industry Ranking considered him the No. 73 cornerback nationally. The Wolfpack also extended an offer to him as a prep recruit before recruiting him again as a portal prospect.

“I will forever be thankful for the opportunity given to me by coach Locks and the University of Maryland Staff,” Coley wrote when announcing his decision to enter the portal. “Playing at the college level has always been a dream of mine. However, after careful consideration and deep conversations with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal.”

Based on TheWolfpacker.com’s count, Coley’s decision brings NC State up to 80 scholarships for the 2024 season once the 22 Wolfpack prep commits officially join the program.

NC State’s portal additions:

– Wide receiver Wesley Grimes
– Center Zeke Correll
– Offensive tackle Valen Erickson
– Quarterback Grayson McCall
– Tight end Justin Joly
