NC State football commits in action: week 5

NC State’s class of 2023 football commits wrapped up another week of their high school senior seasons over the weekend. The Wolfpacker put together all of the top performances from the future of the program here. 

On3 Consensus three-star cornerback Brandon Cisse

Sumter (S.C.) Lakewood High 

Last game:  Brandon Cisse and Lakewood lost 41-0 against Kershaw (S.C.) Andrew Jackson High.

Team record: 2-3

On3 Consensus three-star safety Tamarcus Cooley

Rolesville (N.C.) High 

Last game: NC State nickel commit Tamarcus Cooley and Rolesville defeated Broughton High 55-10. The wide receiver and defensive back for the Rams scored at least one touchdown.

Team record: 3-2

On3 Consensus three-star wide receiver Kevin Concepcion

Charlotte (N.C.) Julius L. Chambers High

Last game: Kevin Concepcion did not record a stat in the 27-0 win over Charlotte (N.C.) West Mecklenburg High. He missed last week’s matchup due to injury.

Season stats: 10 catches for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns, 5 rushes for 58 yards and 1 score

Team record: 4-1 and the No. 3 team in the state according to MaxPreps.com

On3 Consensus four-star safety Daemon Fagan

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage High

Last game: NC State safety commit Daemon Fagan was a force against Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, racking up 19 total tackles, including 2 for loss, intercepting a pass, defending a pair of passes and recovering a fumble. American Heritage lost for the first time this season 42-34.

Season stats: 39 tackles (16 solo, 3 tackles for loss), 5 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery and 2 interceptions.

Team record: 4-1. American Heritage is ranked No. 13 in the country by MaxPreps.com.

On3 Consensus three-star safety Zack Myers

Asheville (N.C.) Christ School

Last game: Christ School lost to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Ga.) 21-14, but Zack Myers continued to impress, catching 7 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he added two tackles.

Season stats: 17 total tackles (including 13 solo and 3 tackles for loss) and 5 passes defended on defense; 16 receptions for 388 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Obadiah Obasuyi

Alpharetta (Ga.) High

Last game: Obadiah Obasuyi and Alpharetta lost 36-21 to Milton (Ga.) High. Check out the three-star offensive lineman’s highlights through the first three games.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Darion Rivers

West Charlotte (N.C.) High

Last game: Darion Rivers and West Charlotte lost 35-6 to Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek High.

Team record: 2-3

On3 Consensus three-star defensive lineman Isaiah Shirley

Boone (N.C.) Watauga High

Last game: Isaiah Shirley made 5 total tackles, 3 for loss, defended 1 pass and recorded a sack in the 55-21 win over Ashe County High.

Season stats: 29 tackles (17 solo, 6.5 for loss), 3.5 sacks, 2 passes defended and 3 receptions for 26 yards. 

Team record: 4-1

On3 Consensus three-star offensive lineman Kamen Smith

Wilkesboro (N.C.) Wilkes Central High

Last game: Kamen Smith returned to the field for Wilkes Central last week and defeated Mount Airy (N.C.) North Surry High 51-32.

On3 Consensus three-star offensive tackle Charlie Symonds

Watertown (Conn.) The Taft School

Last game: The Taft School and Charlie Symonds start their season Sept. 24. Symonds committed to the Wolfpack quickly after his official visit in June.

On3 Consensus three-star quarterback Lex Thomas

Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High

Last game: Lex Thomas did not play due to injury in Heritage’s 42-28 win over Raleigh (N.C.) Athens Drive High.

Season stats: The quarterback has completed 41 of 58 passes for 534 yards and 3 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 182 yards on 20 attempts and added 3 more scores. 

Team record: 5-0

On3 Consensus four-star tight end Javonte Vereen

Havelock (N.C.) High

Last game: Javonte Vereen and Havelock lost their rivalry showdown with New Bern 27-0. The tight end finished the matchup with 6 catches for 91 yards.

Season stats: The four-star proapect has scored 7 touchdowns, racking up 292 receiving yards on 19 catches and rushing for 3 scores (4 rushes for 28 yards).
