On Friday, Sept. 23, The Wolfpacker was in attendance at Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School for what was major game loaded with prospects and brought out coaches from Clemson and South Carolina, among others. Providence Day is loaded with recruits, including top NC State class of 2023 target and On3 Consensus four-star corner Chris Peal. They were hosting Christ School from near Asheville, N.C., which has NC State football commit Zack Myers, an On3 Consensus three-star safety.

Providence Day dominated the game, but in his limited action Myers impressed.

Here are five observations of Myers from the contest.

Five Observations From Seeing Zack Myers In Action

1. Zack Myers has athleticism. Charlotte Providence Day may be about as athletic a high school team you are going to see at the prep level, and yet twice Myers nearly ran away from their kickoff coverage units that included multiple Providence Day starters.

We would venture to say that Myers will offer an upgrade in athleticism at the safety position for NC State. Unfortunately for Myers, he suffered an injury in the first half of the game and did not return after halftime, limiting his opportunities to showcase that speed and quickness.

2. Myers is willing physically. Myers did not necessary lay the wood against Providence Day, and he was not perfect in his tackling. One touchdown scored against Christ School came when Myers got caught out of position and in a poor angle to counter a move by Power Five-bound receiver Channing Goodwin near the 5-yard line on his way for a touchdown.

However, in an almost identical play later in the contest, Myers was able to grab the receiver’s legs to help make a tackle shy of the goal line. Myers seemed to prefer for going for the legs rather than laying a hard hit to the upper body.

Offensively, Myers did not appear afraid of going over the middle, either.

3. For a safety, Myers will be average size-wise. Compared to his safety commit counterpart, On3 Consensus four-star Daemon Fagan from Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage, Myers will even look a bit small, but that’s probably more of a tribute to the lengthy Fagan (a legit 6-foot-3).

Myers, though, is not going to be an imposing safety in the secondary. He is listed in the On3 database at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. We would have guessed pushing 6-foot seeing Myers on the field in person.

4. The instincts looked like they are there. Twice, Myers played a screen pass from Providence Day very well, once getting a tackle for a loss. He also showed some nice vision on his two kickoff returns.

If Myers proves to have good ball security, returning kicks may not be out of the question when Myers gets to college.

5. Myers has a magnetic personality. What stood out to us was after the game both Goodwin and Jordan Shipp, who like Goodwin is bound to be playing at the Power Five level, made it a point to seek out Myers. When they posed for a photo, one of the Providence Day receivers suggested they all throw up the Wolfpack hand sign for Myers.

Anyone who talks or spends some time with Myers tends to come away pulling for him.
