For the first time this season, NC State's offense struggled to find the end zone at a consistent rate. And it proved costly in a 23-21 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday night at Carter-Finley Stadium. Sophomore quarterback CJ Bailey was 26-of-34 passing for 240 yards and two touchdowns, while he was sacked a season-most five times in the defeat. Redshirt sophomore Hollywood Smothers posted 16 carries for 67 yards (4.2 yards per carry) to lead a sputtering rushing attack against the Hokies' defensive front. Sophomore wideout Terrell Anderson, meanwhile, paced NC State with 65 receiving yards on four catches. Senior tight end Dante Daniels, who caught a four-yard touchdown in his lone reception of the night, was the Wolfpack's highest-rated offensive player, according to Pro Football Focus, while freshman quarterback Will Wilson and Bailey weren't far behind. Let’s take a look at NC State's full list of initial PFF grades and snap counts with notes to put some of the data into context.
