The Wolfpacker’s Thursday Morning Newsstand

NC State fielded one of the most consistent special teams squads in the country this year and Sean Brown, one of the stars of that group, picked up national recognition this week as a finalist for National Special Teams Player of the Year.

The redshirt-freshman safety played on 4 special teams units this year and was extremely solid in coverage all season. He made a total of 15 tackles in 2022 while also playing limited snaps as a safety. According to the award announcement, Brown played 238 snaps and recorded a PFF grade of 78.7.

During the Wolfpack’s win over ECU, he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone that drastically changed the momentum of the game. He is 1 of 9 finalists for the award.

Before arriving at NC State, the 6-0 safety was a three-star recruit at Hough High. He made one tackle last year against Wake Forest before emerging into a larger role this fall.
