Former Auburn linebacker Cam Riley has decommitted from NC State. He committed to the Wolfpack out of the transfer portal earlier this year but will now reopen his recruitment.

Riley announced the news on social media.

“Due to many circumstances, I will be decommitting from NC State,” Riley wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Glory be to God, thanks to NC State for the opportunity!”

The former SEC defender is a 6-5, 242 pound senior who played an important role in the Tigers’ defense over the past two seasons. Riley has 120 career tackles, including 8 for loss and 2.5 sacks.

After playing 311 snaps last year, he finished with a 66.7 Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade, including an outstanding 85.1 tackling mark. Riley missed 2 tackles all season and finished the 2023 campaign with 7 receptions allowed on 11 targets for 95 yards.

He projected as an instant contributor to the Pack. Now, former safety Sean Brown appears set to fill a role in the starting lineup, while junior college transfer Wyatt Wright, redshirt freshman Kamal Bonner and Kelvon McBride are three contenders for the third starting spot.

Riley’s former Auburn teammate and Wolfpack safety commit Donovan Kaufman, who announced his decision earlier this year, remains committed.

Both transfer defenders officially visited in January. NC State now has four open scholarships to work with in the spring portal window.

On3 considered Riley the No. 40 linebacker in the portal and the No. 518 transfer overall. Prior to his decommitment, NC State’s transfer class ranked No. 6 nationally.
