NC State picked up a critical commitment Monday evening when Robby Martin officially announced he is joining the 2024 class. The priority three-star Huntington (W.Va.) High offensive lineman picked the Wolfpack over West Virginia and others.

Martin is the program’s second offensive line commit of the class, joining three-star tackle Trent Mitchell, the first prospect who projects on the interior at 6-3, 285 pounds. After he put out a top four of NC State, West Virginia, Penn State and Maryland, the Wolfpack emerged as the leader and secured the commitment.

The Wolfpack hosted him on a June 16-18 visit, the final trip of his schedule that also included a weekend with the Mountaineers June 9-11. NC State managed to sway him from his home-state schools, and the program now holds commitments from three-star linebacker Cannon Lewis and Martin — two of the top-three ranked recruits in West Virginia.

His official visit went well, and he said he meshed well with his future teammates in Raleigh.

“I really like it a lot here,” Martin said during his official visit. “I’ve had a good time with some of the recruits and some of the players. I think I fit in with some of the players well.”

Martin hoped to stop by NC State one more time on July 26, but travel complications led to him having to head back home after driving most of the way to Raleigh. The lineman’s obligations with his high school teammates Friday and Saturday prevented him from visiting for the Alpha Wolf Showcase, per a source, but he also had no plans to visit any other programs.

Communication remained positive throughout the week despite the canceled visit. Offensive line coach Garett Tujague is his primary recruiter, taking over his recruitment earlier this year after John Garrison, who originally offered the lineman May 11, left for Ole Miss.

“Coach Tujague and I built a strong relationship,” Martin said. “It’s been a good one, and I think we’re only building a bigger bond.”

The lineman took his first visit to NC State June 12, 2022, and has been a top priority throughout the process. Martin returned to campus this spring for another unofficial trip to campus.

Martin projects as a guard or a center at the collegiate level. The On3 Industry Ranking thinks highly of the rising senior, ranking him as the No. 1 recruit in West Virginia, and the No. 476 prospect and the No. 37 interior offensive lineman nationally.

NC State now holds 13 commitments in the 2024 class.
