Nebraska Women's Basketball Meets With The Media After Loss To Oregon State In Ncaa Tournament I Gbr

Nebraska Women’s Basketball guard Jaz Shelley is the 29th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft on April 15 in New York City. The 5-foot-9 shooting guard was selected in the third round by the Phoenix Mercury.

She is the first Husker drafted in 10 years. Jordan Hooper was a second-round pick in 2014.

“I’m just excited for the opportunity,” Shelley said in a statement. “I couldn’t be happier about being picked by Phoenix. I feel like that’s a great fit for me. They have such a talented team and an amazing organization, too. Having my name called has always been a dream, but to share this with my second family here in Nebraska is really a special moment I will remember forever.”

Shelley led Nebraska to its best season in a decade. The Huskers won their first NCAA Tournament game and made the Big Ten Tournament for the first time in 10 years. Nebraska recorded two 20-game win seasons with Shelley as their point guard. They missed the mark for three seasons with the last in 2017-18.

After two seasons at Oregon, Shelley arrived in Lincoln and immediately became a huge pick of Nebraska. She left the Huskers as a three-time All-Big Ten selection with one First-Team selection (2023) and two Second-Team honors (2022, 2024). The guard made the Big Ten All-Defensive Team in 2022.

Shelley will go down as one of the best three-point shooters in Husker history. She is also an excellent passer, racking up 657 assists in her five seasons of college.

In her three seasons in Scarlet and Cream, she made 244 threes, ranking her No. 4 in the history books. She also ranks fourth with 83 made threes during the 2023-24 season. Shelley has the most three-pointers in a game in Husker history. The three-time All-Big Ten selection made nine against Illinois on March 3, 2022.

The Moe, Australia native sits atop the Big Ten Tournament record book with 16 made threes in a single tournament. She scored the most points (82) and had the most assists (34) in a conference tournament. Naturally, she and center Alexis Markowski were both on the All-Tournament team.
