A pair of scholarship Nebraska football players are not with the program.

Both wide receiver Alante Brown and offensive lineman Hunter Anthony are no longer listed on the official school roster.

Brown is currently not with the program or in classes, and his status moving forward remains unknown. He was one of the Huskers’ leading receivers heading into the 2023 season. The door remains open still for his return. Brown did not report back to NU this semester for classes in January.

In 23 games of action at NU, Brown has 22 catches for 262 yards. He had a career-high 16 catches for 191 yards in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Oklahoma State transfer Anthony has moved on from the program and will not play a sixth-year college football in 2023.

Anthony saw limited action in 2022 at right tackle, and with the return of Teddy Prochazka, Turner Corcoran and Bryce Benhart, he was not projected to see playing time this season.

Nebraska’s scholarship situation is something to watch

We know Anthony moved on from NU, while Brown’s long-term outlook remains unknown.

With that said, the Huskers are at 102 players on scholarship if you count Brown and remove Anthony on the latest distribution chart.

Anthony’s departure puts Nebraska down to 14 linemen on scholarship. At his signing day press conference on Feb. 1, head coach Matt Rhule said he would like to carry 16 scholarship linemen in his program.

Rhule and his staff need at least 17 more players to move on from the program from now until August to get down to 85 scholarships. There are currently 140 players listed on the official Nebraska roster. It’s projected to be under 120 players once all the attrition occurs.
