UNC OL William Boone No Longer With Team
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina offensive lineman William Boone is no longer on the team, Inside Carolina confirmed on Tuesday. Boone last played in UNC’s game against Richmond, exiting the game early with an injury.

UNC was Boone’s fourth team in four seasons, as UNC picked him up from Prairie View A&M of the FCS level. The 6-foot-6, 340-pound lineman signed with the Tar Heels in January. Boone played and started in UNC’s first three games. He played a total of 98 snaps for UNC, per Pro Football Focus.
Boone’s agency representative, Austin Pfenninger of JL Sports, responded to Inside Carolina’s report on X, saying Boone will be pursuing a medical redshirt.
North Carolina played just five players on the offensive line on Friday against Cal: Chad Lindberg, Jakai Moore, Austin Blaske, Daniel King and Will O’Steen. In total, 12 offensive linemen have seen the field for UNC this season, and nine have made at least one start. King and Moore are the only players who have starting in all six games. UNC’s started the same unit on the offensive line in the last two games.

Prior to Prairie View A&M, Boone made junior-college stops at Kilgore College in Texas (2023) and New Mexico Military Institute (2022).
Boone played right tackle on the Prairie View offensive line in 2024. He compiled a team-high 782 snaps and didn’t allow a sack, while appearing in 12 games for the Panthers, who finished 5-7 and fired coach Leonard McDowell.
Boone is the seventh confirmed midseason departure for the Tar Heels. Aziah Johnson, Trevyon Green, Paul Billups, Caleb Hood, Yasir Smith and Pryce Yates also left the team earlier this season.
North Carolina is 2-4 and 0-2 in ACC play. The team will host Virginia on Saturday at noon.
