Newsstand: Former Notre Dame QB Ian Book gets another shot in the NFL

Former Notre Dame football quarterback Ian Book is getting another shot in the NFL. On Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles announced they signed the Fighting Irish’s all-time winningest signal-caller.
This is Book’s second stint in Philadelphia — this time to add depth to the quarterback room with starter Jalen Hurts’ status uncertain due to injury. Book spent 2022 in the City of Brotherly Love after the New Orleans Saints waived him before the start of the season. The Saints drafted him in the fourth round with the No. 133 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
After one year in Philadelphia, the Eagles cut him before the 2023 season. Then, Book spent one week with the Patriots but was eventually cut. The Chiefs signed him to a reserve/future contract in January 2024. However, they released him in August.
Book has only appeared in one game in his NFL career, starting against the Dolphins in 2021. He completed 12-20 passes for 135 yards and 2 interceptions.
