Newsstand: Former Notre Dame teammates Hannah Hidalgo, Olivia Miles working together for Team USA

Olivia Miles probably hasn’t dished out her final setup to Hannah Hidalgo in recorded competition. If the former Notre Dame teammates’ play in Team USA practice is any indication of what they’ll look like on the floor together in the FIBA AmeriCup over the next couple of weeks, then they’ll connect on a few more buckets.
Just like old times.
Hidalgo and Miles are teammates on a USA Basketball roster that will compete in Chile from June 28 to July 6. There are two groups in the AmeriCup. USA is in Group B with Chile, Colombia and Puerto Rico. Group A consists of El Salvador, Canada, Argentina and Brazil.
Miles decided to transfer away from the Fighting Irish program to spend her final collegiate season at TCU. She only played one season alongside Hidalgo in South Bend. The Irish experienced the highest of highs, reaching a ranking of No. 1 in the country in the Associated Press Poll, but also some pretty low lows, losing in the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive season.
Hidalgo led the Irish with 23.8 points per game. Miles ranked second on the team with 15.4. Miles also led the team with 5.8 assists per game while chipping in 5.6 rebounds per game. Hidalgo averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.6 assists per game.
Together, they were arguably the best backcourt in the country. That’ll be on display again for a few international games this summer. Then it’s back to Indiana for Hidalgo and to Texas for Miles. The next time they’re on the same floor, if the Irish and Horned Frogs are to meet for the third time in the last two seasons, they’ll be adversaries.

Fighting Irish quote of the day
“I just think across the board, their starting five, this group has elevated beyond everybody else in college football. And, frankly, I just don’t think the competition at one is that close with whoever would be sitting there at the second spot, third spot or what have you.”
— ESPN analyst Greg McElroy on Notre Dame’s offensive line
