When you’re on a seven-game winning streak and are in line to make the College Football Playoff again like Notre Dame, your players get noticed and they get themselves in the running to win awards.

That’s the way this works.

Wednesday, the Irish announced four players received recognition of some sort for five different honors.

Junior running backs Jeremiyah Love is nominated for the Capital One Orange-Bowl FWAA Courage Award and is a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award. Redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr is a semifinalist for the Dave O’Brien Award, which goes to the best quarterback in the country. Junior wide receiver Jordan Faison is a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, which ends up in the hands of the most outstanding player in the nation who began his career as a walk-on. Finally, senior linebacker Jerry Rullo earned a selection to the Go Bowling Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete Program.

Love is in the mix for the Heisman Trophy. He’s tied for first in the FBS with 16 total touchdowns, and he ranks second nationally in yards from scrimmage per game with 138.0. Carr is on pace to break the Fighting Irish’s all-time single-season mark for pass efficiency rating. He’s currently just over 170, and the Irish record is just over 161. Faison is the Irish’s leading receiver with 43 catches for 535 yards and 3 touchdowns. Rullo is a neuroscience major who plans on pursuing medical school once he leaves Notre Dame.

The bucket that broke a program record.

Love is taking his Heisman Trophy candidacy selflessly.

Fighting Irish quote of the day

I’m glad to be a part of an organization like this that has that power to be able to choose whatever they want to do and then still be able to go to the playoffs like we did last year. At the end of the day, I feel like whether we’re in a conference or not, it really doesn’t matter because we go out there and win games and do what we got to do. Stuff is going to handle itself.”
